The Answer To Cars Giving Cyclist More Room On The Road?

jill-dog-rideHaul around a kid trailer! It’s amazing. Today Jill and I rode from Victor to Alta, WY hauling our dogs in kid trailers. We headed to the Darby Dash Fun Jour, a fundraiser for low cost spays and neuters and a emergency veterinary relief fund for the animals of Teton Valley. Aside from having a fabulous ride and an amazing time with our doggies…we realized how much room cars give you when they see a kid trailer ahead (it was amusing to see their faces once they realized it was dogs in the trailers…).

Jill and I decided why not always train with the trailers. Maybe not always with a 60 pound dog it in…but hey, it’s all training for the big one. We are looking forward to the first Teton Pass climb with trailer in tote. Life is Ruff!We can’t wait for Fitzgerald’s Bicycles to issue team trailers…paint job and all! Maybe even titanium trailers so you still get the safety effect without much added weight! Never again do you have to get brushed by an automobile. Yeah, yeah, we are brilliant…feel free to thank us in person!

The dog is cool, but I will never accept cyclists on the road until they pay taxes like I have to with my car.

Interesting perspective cbw, I know a lot of drivers feel this way. I’d like to offer a different way of looking at it. Although the gas tax does pay for a majority of road up keep, it is not the only source. If a cyclist is paying taxes at all, some of it is going towards roads and I would imagine it is somewhat proportional to their amount of wear and tear. Also, an overwhelming majority of cyclists also own cars and pay just as much as you in gas tax. Just because they choose to also use their bike on their road doesn’t mean they aren’t helping pay for it. Next time you see a cyclist on the road consider thanking them for paying into the system while reducing the amount of required maintenance on it. I suppose all that could be said for pedestrians too.
