Winter Riding Accessories

What keeps you warm while riding in the winter?  Keeping our head, face, hands and feet at a comfortable temperature is key to all day fat bike adventures.  

• Pogies look super funny on a bike, but boy do they keep your hands warm while allowing you to wear a lighter pair of gloves.  They can also double as a warm stash for your energy bar, small flask of water, phone or camera.
• A buff is one of the most versatile pieces of winter clothing ever!  Here's why I always ride with a buff in the winter:
• It can be worn as so many things: a hat, neck gaitor, scarf, nose warmer, balaclava, and more.  Check out these ideas for how to wear a Buff.
• Buffs are lightweight and take up little room in your frame bag.
• I use my buff to cover my head and face when the temperature drops to give my hat an extra boost of warmth.
• You know you loose lots of warmth through your head so find yourself a favorite beanie hat either in wool or fleece or a combo and wear it.
• Head bands make great nose covers when the temperature drops.
• Warm, insulated and roomy boots make for happy feet.  
• Make sure there is enough room so you can wear extra socks without being pinched in your boots to keep your feet warm. 
• Paying attention to articulating your ankle and foot during your pedal stroke can help keep your feet warm.
• Sometimes your feet will just be cold - that's the time to get off the bike and walk briskly with an exaggerated foot swing to bring circulation and warmth back to your feet.
