2012 marks the 9th year for the Fitzgerald's Bicycles race team! Thanks to all the supporting sponsors who make it possible! Look for the orange jerseys at a race near you!
Our team races everything – road, mountain, triathlon, snow bike, ultra endurance, 24-hour & 12-hour races, LOTOJA – you name and our team has ridden it or is going to ride it. We've decided to highlight our team this summer so we'll be adding team member interviews throughout the summer.
Dave Byers, one of our team managers, just set a personal record down at 12 Hours of Mesa Verde finishing a solid 7th in the Men's Single Speed Solo division. Dave specializes in endurance mountain bike racing with some digressions into snow biking, road and cyclocross. In addition to endurance racing, Dave also owns and runs one of the team's sponsors, Athlete 360, an on-line race registration service. Dave took a few minutes to talk about his favorite rides, the Victor Emporium milk shakes and Ergon grips. Read his interview here.
Dave "Bergie" Bergart, one of the original Fitzgerald's Bicycles Team members, races lots of different kinds of races including road, mountain bike and cross. This winter he finished third in Jackson Hole's ultra-competitive Pole Pedal Paddle Race. In addition to racing, Dave is actively involved in Victor Velo, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting economic development in Victor, Idaho through providing robust cycling opportunities. Just before another of his favorite races, the Run & Ride, Bergie took a few minutes to talk to us about why he keeps coming back to the Run & Ride, his race schedule for the summer and why his rain jacket is so important. You can read his complete interview here.
Margot Watters, one of the newest members to the Fitzgerald's Team, brings some serious chops in triathlons. Margot finished a strong 5th in her age group in the St. George Ironman this spring and races the Boise 70.3 Ironman with her daugther Annie on June 9th. In addition to getting aero, Margot has been ripping up the corduroy on her fat bike this past winter and is hitting the dirt with her kids this summer on her new mountain bike. You can read her full interview here.
Melissa Davidson joined the team last year and focuses on triathlons. She recently qualified for the 70.3 World Ironman Championships in Las Vegas in September with a strong finish in the Boise 70.3 under difficult weather conditions. Melissa is also a fierce competitor on the cross course, rides her cruiser to work and loves her snow bike. Read her full interview here.
Anna-Lisette Davis is another new member to our team. Anna has been racing in lots of different races this year with some great results including taking a win in June's Run & Ride in the mixed division and placing 16th in the Lumberjack 100. Next up for Anna is the Crusher in the Tushar on July 14th. Anna shared with us her Lumberjack race report and answered our questions. You can read her full interview here.
Wes Hamilton joined the team this year after riding with team members at last fall's Victor Velo's Cyclocross races. Wes has been focusing on racing criteriums early this summer to get in shape for his main focus, you guessed it, CROSS SEASON! Next up for Wes is a full weekend of racing at the Wydaho Rendezvous Mountain Bike Festival. But he took a breather to answer our questions. You can read his full interview here.
Jason Berning, another new team member, is riding strong this season. After finishing a brillant second at the Cache-Game Race just behind Cary Smith, Jason went on to have another strong race at the Galena Grinder finishing 7th in a very strong men's pro/cat1/2/3 field. Just before heading up to Targhee to race Pierre's Hole, Jason tells us about looking good in Fitzy orange and green and bear spray quick draw. Read his Cache Game race report and interview here.
Gabe Klamer, aka Fiddie Cent, is a 7 year veteran of the team. Gabe has been on fire this season with a 4th place finish at the Cache-Game race, 8th place in men's open at Pierre's Hole (and he earned a coveted belt buckle!) and strong finishes at the Galena Grinder and Wasatch Back 50. Just off his impressive ride at Pierre's Hole, Gabe shared insights on his gangsta style, Big Day socks and how to stay calm! You can read his full interview here.
Dave Saurman is a long time Fitzy Team rider. Dave has been lighting it up this summer with great performances at the Cache-Game race and Pierre's Hole. He took a few moments in his preparation for the Park City Point 2 Point to talk with us about his mantra, 4 leaf clovers and why the Grateful Dead work every time. You can read his full interview here.
Katie Engleman is in her third season with the team. This year she has won her divisions in both the Boise 9 to 5 and the Crusher in the Tushar. She is currently gearing up for a bid at the LOTOJA on a tandem with fellow team rider Dave Bergart. She talked with us a bit about learning to ride a tandem, why you might hear her swearing on her bike and how ice cream motivates her cycling. Read her interview here.
AJ Linnell: Another outstanding freshman on Team Fitzy, AJ is our resident singlespeed superstar. His palmeres just keeps growing: from 1st place overall at the Boise 9 to 5, to 1st places in the Galena Grinder, High Cascades 100, Teton pASS Kicker and the Jurassic Classic in single speed divisions to 3rd at MTB Marathon Nationals. He spoke with us about why he is scared to ride a snow bike and why he actually has three speeds when he rides his single-geared bike. You can read his entire interview here.
